Sawtelle Blvd. Los Angeles, CA9. These guys are seriously the best. The staff always have really good recommendations (I don't think they've ever given me a bad one) and clearly love the products they work with.
Blackbeard History
They're always eager to chat with people who come in and find out what you liked, what you didn't like, and are really good at tailoring their recommendations to every person they talk to. The stock is a good size and quality, so you'll definitely be able to find whatever you need for any occasion (or no occasion. Just do what I do and buy individual bottles for yourself. Pour the Rekorderlig ciders over ice cream. Pear cider + caramel ice cream = you won't regret this, I promise.). Prices are great, in line with bigger "discount" stores, and the quality selection and service push them over the top. I really love these guys.
It's a little bit of a hike for me to get to them, but for me it's worth it. There's plenty of street parking nearby and even if you have to walk a block or two from your car to the shop, the area is very pretty. Without a doubt the best beer store in Los Angeles. Step 1: Follow this place on Instagram. They get new, incredible shipments regularly, and social media is the first place to see what's newly in stock. Step 2: Get to Blackbeard's.

Look, I love myself some suds, so I've experienced what the Westside has to offer in terms of places to grab yourself a cold one. Generally, you're stuck with either decent variety and a pretentious beer buyer.. Or you're at a brewery, and then your variety gets a bit.. Not so with Blackbeard's. The owner and his staff are top notch. He's easy- going, fun to geek- out with about beers, unpretentious yet with a great love for and knowledge of craft brews..
Seriously. Just go on Instagram and see for yourself. If you love beer, this should be the only place you shop.
If you like beer, you need to check this place out. If you are thinking about getting into beer, you might want to stay away because this place is like a gateway drug, and you'll soon be a consummate beer nerd. So, yeah, get here. Great atmosphere and staff. Very friendly and welcoming.
Staff and the owner are always very fun and helpful, and they make the process of finding new beers/wine informative and accurate. They ask what I like to drink and what I thought about beers they've suggested so they can suggest more things that I like. They get new products every week and post them online with descriptions so I'll know going in if there's something new or limited that I should get. All in all, coming here is very rewarding, as well as affordable. It's a small and new business and you can tell the owner is very passionate and tries to do right by customers, and in me they've got a happy customer for life! I still haven't taken a picture with Blackbeard though..
Go here every week. Always super nice and I strongly suggest following their instagram. Awaited a Plan Check order, so walked over and grabbed two awesome large 2.
OR crafts. Super friendly, the workers told me biz has been here half year, and are in midst of procuring 2 more large fridges. Great great selection, even an Oregon tagged section for drink!
So happy these guys are just a couple of blocks from me. Here in Sawtelle, when you want to buy good alcohol, your choices are limited without getting in the car. And the dumpy liquor store down the street with warm wine doesn't cut it. This place is great. Swung by last weekend when some guests came over.
I am not much of a beer drinker these days, though the beer selection was big and quality. They also, thankfully, have a big wine selection.
The people at the store couldn't have been cooler and more helpful. They even helped us to a bottle of wine that was less expensive than the one we initially picked out saying that it was better..
An excellent and classy new addition to the neighborhood. I love this place! I've noticed a few craft beer stores popping up, but not to this extent.
I'm a huge IPA fan and the selection is unbelievable. The owner and the employee that was working there were super cool, knowledgable, and gave me a better understanding of the ever- changing world of beer. They restock all the time and post on Instagram when and what they receive. I just wished I lived closer! I'm always stopping by when I'm in the area. Number one in my books.
Keep up the good work! One upswing to living in a rapidly growing neighborhood is that the businesses of massive convenience begin arriving. While there is a liquor store ducked away down Sawtelle, the opening of Blackbeard's Crafts has been such a welcome addition!
The prices here are actually very reasonable for the craft beer crowd. And the selection is extensive without seeming overwhelming. I've stopped in twice now and left with beers that I would definitely never find at the grocery store. The staff here is very helpful.
Their recommendations have been spot on and very honest about what you're purchasing. I love that. I haven't ventured onto the other side of the store to purchase wines yet, but I did a quick walk on my last trip and definitely saw a few things that caught my eye. I'll be back. I was so excited when I found out there was a craft beer spot in West LA, and even more excited to hear that it was on Sawtelle! Checked the place out today, and I absolutely fell in love with the store. I was impressed with the selection and the hospitality, and I can tell that this place will be my go- to for craft beers for years to come. I especially loved the selection of Almanac beers that I had seen at Blackbeard's.
Most places like Whole Foods usually stocks 2- 3 varieties, but Blackbeard's was well stocked with a nice variety of Almanac brews. If you are a lover of craft beer in West LA, definitely come check this place out! This place rocks! Specialty beers by the ton that I've been looking for in many places & man are they good! Only thing they need now is one called Klocke Roeland from Belgium by the keg & they would have my business for life! They still will though so no worries there.
If you're looking for a nice craft beer/cider selection AND an employee who isn't a snob, this place is for you! I stopped by this location on my way to Plan Check. It used to be another store but I noticed that the storefront was different and the interiors looked cool, so I was lured in. I LOVE cider but I'm not an expert. The employee (I'm sorry, I forgot your name.. I didn't ask what your name was) was very kind and helped me choose a cider that I would love based off of my requests.
Some of the past stores like these had employees who expected the customers to know their sh*t, so it was nice to walk out with a smile on my face instead of feeling awkward and embarrassed. Great store with a fantastic selection of craft beers. Prices seemed reasonable, and the staff were eager to answer questions or offer help.
They also have one of my favorites, Allagash Tripel, in a 4 pack, which isn't always easy to find. Located on a quieter stretch of Sawtelle. I'd much rather come here to grab beer than deal with the indifferent staff at Bev.
Mo! This place is great. Each time I stop by I find something new I haven't seen anywhere else (they take pride in bringing in new products almost daily). The staff is awesome and know a lot about beer and wine. This is easily the best spot in this part of town to get craft beer. I've lived in the area for a couple of years. I love beer but the stuff they sell at 7- 1.
Ralphs has been my go to spot but it's a bit of walk. Enter Blackbeards. This place is awesome.
The owner and staff are beyond warm and welcoming. They know their beer and wine, are happy to help and offer excellent prices on their vast selection. Have a taste for something that isn't available?
They will do everything they can to make sure they have it on your next visit. With all of the ramen and other excellent restaurants along Sawtelle, Blackbeards was a much needed addition. Couldn't be happier!
Doubt I'll ever move now. Appreciate the hours as well. Stop by and have a chat with the staff or owner, grab a beer and leave happy!
Take a picture on their pirate throne before you leave! Cheers! Great service and selection of craft beers.
The owner and everyone that works there has been super nice every time I've been. Amazing selection, knowledgeable and friendly staff, this is by far my new favorite spot for beer & wine on the west side! Absolutely LOVE this place! Amazing selection of beer, cider & wine! My husband and I could easily spend an hour there just trying to pick a few out to take home. And that's just the time looking at everything.
Then it comes down to Shayan. That guy is the coolest. Super knowledgeable & really friendly.
You can feel a bit overwhelmed with such a large selection but he answers all questions, gives great suggestions & is excited to share his amazing shop with you. There is no reason to go anywhere else. I'm so glad Blackbeard's is here and we will be back.. This is a legitimate craft brew store. They get the stuff that is rare and sought after. Any beer geek's slice of heaven.
I just popped in for some founders breakfast stout that I have been on the hunt for for 2 weeks. The only place westside that sells it. I hadn't been in for a while (porch bombs have filled my fridge) and the inventory was even fiercer than the last time. All the local stuff including Santa Monica Brew a Works; but also whalez like 1. Shayan is an awesome curator. The staff is also super cool and can talk beer without being pretentious or judgmental.
Always a pleasure to go and hang with the pirates. This is the best beer store in Los Angeles - even better than the stalwart Sunset Beer Co.
Shayan, the owner, is a fountain of knowledge and the type of small business owner that makes you want to keep coming back for recommendations and discussion. Selection includes great craft beer, wine, and sake.
